Rest In Peace

With a heavy heart I am writing to share the sad news of Troy’s passing last night, Wednesday July 7th around 7:00pm.  He was 36 years old.

His battle with melanoma cancer ended almost 6 months to the day of his diagnosis.  Troy had developed breathing complications last night (July 6th) and was taken  from his home by ambulance to Parker Adventist Hospital. Doctors confirmed a diagnosis of pneumonia and yesterday he was moved to Denver Hospice Care Center to try and ease his many symptoms.  The Cancer had spread and was unresponsive to any treatment causing many complications.

Courtney and Morgan along with his family were by his side at the time of his death.  He suffered tremendously in the recent weeks and now we can take solace in the knowledge that he is finally at peace.

He fought this horrible disease at very step but ultimately it was not in gods plans for him to survive this.  He is survived by his wife Courtney, 8 year old daughter Morgan who was the light of his life, parents Brian and Sadie, brother Craig and step sister Shanna.  He was a wonderful father, husband and friend and will be greatly missed.

Services are currently in the planning stages but are tentatively set for Saturday, July 10th in the Highlands Ranch, Colorado area.  More details to follow.

Please continue to keep the family in your prayers.
+++May he rest in peace + + +

Update May 3, 2010

Hello All,

A few weeks ago Troy decided that he did not want to continue with the chemo treatments any longer.  Troy is down 50 lbs and made the choice for now to stop the chemo treatments.  So it was advised by our doctor that Troy would need to be cared for through The Denver Hospice.

While this was a very difficult discission for him we decided to move forward with Hospice.   During this time Troy was having extreme pain when eating and drinking and we all became very worried.   The hospice staff changed some medications and Troy has really made progress with eating and putting on about 5 lbs last week.   Troy has been up and about and we are so proud of him!

The insurance approved today that Troy can get the CT scan to determine what the last two chemo treatments have done.  We are hoping for positive results.   This will be scheduled in the next week or so.

Our main focus is to get Troy to put on the pounds in the next few weeks and then we hoping by mid May to determine which direction Troy is wanting to go.  I will keep you posted.

Thanks to you all!

Love,
Courtney

Update April 26, 2010

As of right now Troy’s treatment is in a holding pattern. It was decided that he would take a break from the effects of chemo in order to build his strength. During this time he & his family are also exploring additional treatment options going forward. It has been a few weeks since his last round of chemo & he is feeling better as it gets further behind him. Please remember to keep Troy & family in your prayers!

Update April 11, 2010

We arrived home yesterday from the Hospital.  Troy received his 4th round of chemo.  Troy is feeling OK and we are looking forward to a nice warm day today.  Hoping to get him out for a walk or just to sit on the deck for a little while if it is not to windy. Troy’s spirits have really changed lately and things are looking up.  We just need to keep going in this direction and get through the next week of the side effects from chemo.  In the next two weeks Troy will have a CT scan to see what progress he has made.   The next few weeks my goal is to get Troy to put on weight and push for limited exercise.  This will do him good and hoping to get him stronger.

Love you all and thank you for your support!
Courtney

Update April 1, 2010

After consulting with his doctors yesterday it was determined that Troy is not physically ready for bio-chemotherapy yet.  He will undergo traditional chemotherapy on Monday and in the mean time work on building his strength.  Thanks again for all of the prayers and well wishes.

Update

This week Troy is concentrating on building his strength at home before he starts another round of chemotherapy next week.  This will be his first round of bio-chemo which is one of the most aggressive forms of treatment available.  Basically he will be given different types of chemotherapy medications (along with his many usual meds) for multiple days straight and have to remain in the ICU the entire time as this extremely hard on the body. Fortunately, his treatment is at the Melanoma Clinic at the University of Colorado Hospital which has what many consider the best doctors in the world for treating his form of cancer.  Please say a prayer to help him have strength of body and spirit before and after what is going to be a very difficult week.
